Privacy-aware ad management for WordPress

Your consent tool records what visitors allow. AdPresso turns that decision into ad delivery: it reads the signal, checks every ad against the consent it needs, and only loads what is allowed. Where an ad has to stay off, a privacy fallback can fill the slot instead of a blank space.
AdPresso works alongside your consent management platform. It does not replace it.

 How AdPresso handles consent

A consent management platform asks visitors for permission and stores their answer. It does not know which of your ads load third-party scripts. AdPresso does, because it renders them. It reads the signal your consent setup provides and applies it ad by ad. What happens in detail depends on your consent tool, the ad type and your settings.

1. Detect

AdPresso reads consent from the source you choose: the IAB TCF API of your CMP, a supported consent plugin, or a cookie you name. In automatic mode it picks the method for you.

2. Evaluate

Code and HTML5 ads need consent by default, image ads served from your own server do not. In TCF mode, personalized ads require consent for purposes 1, 3 and 4. Single ads that load nothing external can be exempted.

3. Deliver

Ads that qualify load. The others stay off, or AdPresso shows the privacy fallback you picked. If a visitor rejects consent later, AdPresso removes the ad or swaps in the fallback.

 Privacy features, Free and Pro

Consent handling is part of the free plugin. Pro adds finer control for TCF setups and keeps your ad slots working when consent is missing.

Four consent methods · Free

Automatic detection, IAB TCF, consent plugin integration or a custom cookie. Choose under AdPresso → Settings → Privacy. Every code ad has a switch to bypass the global rule when it loads nothing external.

Works with your consent plugin · Free

AdPresso detects consent from Borlabs Cookie, Complianz, Real Cookie Banner, Cookiebot, CookieYes, DSGVO Pixelmate and other common tools. For service-based plugins you map an ad to a CMP service ID.

Privacy fallback ads · Pro

Pick an ad or ad group that shows whenever the primary ad needs consent the visitor has not given. Ideal for house ads and local banners.

TCF vendor and NPA controls · Pro

Require consent for a specific IAB vendor per ad. For ads with Google as vendor, request non-personalized ads from AdSense and Google Ad Manager when the visitor accepts only the purposes needed for them.

No consent? Put the ad space to better use

When a visitor declines, an AdSense slot usually stays empty. AdPresso Pro lets you assign a privacy fallback: a local image banner, a house ad or a direct promotion that appears in that slot instead. Choose creatives that really need no extra permission. A banner from your own server is a good start; an affiliate banner with a tracking pixel is not.

Example

Primary ad: AdSense in the content.
Visitor: rejects marketing cookies.
Result: the AdSense script never loads. Your local newsletter banner appears in the same slot, with no third-party request.

 Connect your consent management platform

Already using a consent tool? AdPresso connects to it in one of three ways. Pick the one that matches your setup, then test how ads behave when a visitor accepts, rejects or changes the choice.

IAB TCF platforms

For CMPs that implement the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. AdPresso listens to the standard TCF API and checks the purposes each ad needs. Google requires a Google-certified CMP for personalized ads in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. What the 2026 TCF updates change for publishers.

WordPress consent plugins

Borlabs Cookie, Complianz, Real Cookie Banner, Cookiebot, DSGVO Pixelmate, CookieYes and others. AdPresso reacts when the visitor makes or changes a choice. With Real Cookie Banner and Pixelmate you enter the service IDs that unlock your ads.

Any cookie-based tool

If your tool stores its decision in a cookie, enter the cookie name and the value that means consent. AdPresso loads the affected ads only when both match.
Step-by-step guides for individual consent tools are in preparation. Until then, the privacy options documentation covers every method.

 Frequently asked questions

Does AdPresso replace a consent management platform?

No. A CMP asks visitors for permission and stores their choice. AdPresso works alongside it, reads that choice and decides ad by ad what may load. You still need a consent tool that fits your site and region.

Can I show ads when visitors reject consent?

Sometimes. Image ads served from your own server and code that loads nothing external can still appear. With AdPresso Pro you can assign a privacy fallback, for example a house ad, for slots where the primary ad needs consent. Check what each creative actually loads; an affiliate banner with tracking still needs permission.

Does AdPresso support the IAB TCF?

Yes. AdPresso reads consent from CMPs that implement the IAB TCF and checks the purposes each ad needs. It supports the IAB TCF and goes beyond it, with integrations for common consent plugins and a cookie mode. Whether your setup meets legal requirements also depends on how your CMP and your ad networks are configured.

Which privacy features are free?

All four consent methods, the consent plugin integrations, the per-ad bypass and the handling of withdrawn consent are free. Pro adds privacy fallback ads, per-ad TCF vendor requirements and the non-personalized ads option.

Respect the choice, keep the slot. Install the free plugin, connect your consent tool and watch how your ads follow each visitor’s decision. Version 1.7.0 · WordPress 6.5+ · PHP 8.0+ · GPL.
