Link attributes may look like tiny add-ons in your HTML, but they play an important role in defining how links behave and how safely they interact with the browser. The attribute target="_blank" tells the browser to open a clicked link in a new tab. There are strategic considerations behind using it. This manual focuses on implementing and managing this attribute within AdPresso.

Global application of target="_blank"

AdPresso lets you enforce this behavior across your ads with a single setting, ensuring every outgoing ad link opens in a new tab and meets today’s security standards.

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard > AdPresso > Settings > Output.
  2. Locate the option "Open Ad Links in a New Tab".
  3. Activate the toggle switch.

Once enabled, AdPresso automatically appends the following attributes to the primary target links of image ads and HTML/Code Ads:

  • target="_blank": opens in a new tab
  • rel="noopener noreferrer": protects users and aligns with modern security best practices

Note: You can override this global behavior at any time on an individual ad level.

Handling links inside HTML/Code ads

The automatic modification applies only to the link specified in the Target URL field of your ad. If you place external links directly in your HTML/Code snippet, AdPresso will not automatically touch them.

If you want those embedded links to inherit automatic attributes, replace the external URL in your HTML code with the link placeholder (%link%), then enter the final destination URL in the Target URL field.

Pro Tip: If you’re using AdPresso Pro’s Link Masking feature, the %link% placeholder is especially useful. It gives you the automatic link attributes plus a cleaner, more trustworthy link structure using your custom domain.
